The Martingale System

The Martingale System is usually the first system learned by beginning gamblers and is probably the oldest and best known strategy around today. There are a lot of other systems that are based on the Martingale System, so it’s very useful to know the Martingale System before looking any further.

The Martingale System works by betting in even chance bets with progressive amounts. The good thing about the Martingale System is useful it can be used on a lot of other gambling games using the same ideas.

The main purpose of this system is to make a profit overall even if there is a series of loosing bets. The basic idea behind the Martingale System is that if you bet on an even chance bet (like betting on Black) sooner or later, you will win. Until your bet actually wins, you have to double your bet each time. When your bet finally wins, you will get any money back that’s been lost, plus one extra unit.

In theory this system is infallible. Keep doubling your bet and it will definitely come up some time. There are two problems that make this system risky in practice. Firstly, you will need a BIG bankroll to be able to keep putting on bet after bet if you hit a loosing streak. As an example, if you are playing a $5 bet and have a 20-spin loosing streak (and yes that can and does happen!), you’ll need to have a total of $10,845,755.00 to place your next bet! The second problem is playing within house limits. Even if you’ve got the finances to keep betting after loosing spins, you will eventually reach the house limit for that table, and then you’ll never win back what you’ve outlaid in bets. To use the same example as before, after a 20 spin loosing streak, your next bet would be $5,242,880. I don’t personally know of any casino that’d take that bet, especially on a $5 table!

Playing the Martingale System has got a good chance of winning you a few dollars when you start using it. But be careful because you will end up loosing in the end. There are a few variations of this system. Some variations limit the amount of loosing spins that you can make before walking away from the table. A good one is to limit to three bets as a maximum. This will loose you 7 units at most.
